ENGLAND HOCKEY MASTERS - Captain’s Blog
Disappointment for the 40s whilst the 45s, 50s and 55s go marching on.
The 40s lost 4-1 to Australia in an excellent game of hockey played under floodlights on pitch 1. England opened the scoring through a Camilleri penalty flick after Ian Brown had been fouled in the act of shooting. England held their lead until Australia equalised after a well-worked short corner. The turning point in the game was a two goal burst from the Aussies early in the 2nd half - whilst there was some debate about the merits of the first the 2nd was a fabulous piece of flowing hockey. Australia sealed their victory in the dying moments of the game as England pressed. England go into their last game knowing that a victory over New Zealand still gives them an outside chance of winning the trophy if Scotland can beat Australia.
The 45s and 55s won their respective semi finals, the 45s convincingly 7-1 over Hong Kong whilst the 55s prevailed 2-1 over Hong Kong in a much tighter affair.
The 50s will go into their final with Australia in confident mood following an 8-0 win over Malaysia to top their group.
